Leeds Pride: The Birds & the Bees of Creating LGBT Families

In collaboration with Leeds Pride, P3 are pleased to be bringing its popular "Birds & the Bees" event to Leeds. Our Birds & the Bees event provides an emotional and moving panel looking at the ups and downs of their journey to create a family the different journeys for the LGBT community in creating their families. This event is aimed at the LGBT community, but the issues discussed are sometimes relevant to the heterosexual community and we are pleased to welcome everyone. Panellists will share their own experiences of proceeding with adoption, surrogacy, IVF and co-parenting; and explain why they chose one over the other.The event is targeted at prospective parents to gain an insight into the emotional realities of the different options available to them.

The P3 Pride Kids Run

The popular annual Pride Run in Victoria Park will this year feature a 2km kids run, known as the P3 Pride Kids Run. The race is only to all children aged 4 - 11. Children of all abilities are invited to come join the festivities and to complete the run walking, jogging, running or in a wheelchair. All are welcome. Registration is opening shortly. The P3 Kids Pride Run is produced in combination with the London Frontrunners, and sponsored by CARE Fertility. REGISTRATION will be opening shortly.

P3 Weekend Playdate: The Big Feastival (Camping Weekend)

We are taking our popular P3 Playdate series on the road, and inviting P3 members to come join us (with or without children) August bank holiday weekend for a camping weekend at the Big Feastival in the Cotswolds. We will be securing a dedicated P3 area on the camp grounds, so that our members and their children can meet friends old and new. We are finalising planning for this great event. Alternative Family Week

Alternative Family Week is run in order to help raise awareness of non-traditional families and to help offer prospective parents with support in exploring alternative and to better understand what it means to start their own family. More information is available here. Positive Parenting: Parenting with HIV

P3, in partnership with the NHS and the Dean Street clinics, are pleased to be running this unique panel event recognising that being HIV+ is not an impediment to being a parent or having a family. Sharing very emotional personal stories, panellists will tell their stories of creating their families, and the fears those that are prospective parents have. This event aims to address some of the stigma associated with being HIV+ and to alleviate concerns for to-be parents that they too can have a family. REGISTRATION is FREE and will open shortly.

The panel will look at what it means to be LGBT in a family; both from the perspectives of being an LGBT parent and being a straight parent of an LGBT child. Panellists will share their stories of creating their families, coming out, support and their interactions with their employers, friends and educators, including dealing with school gate bullying. The event, hosted by Deutsche Bank at their London Wall office in the City on May 16th, will offer an evening of informal panel discussion and networking as we draw on the modern and diverse experiences of parents, bothAllies and LGBT.

The panelists will explore what it means to have a “modern” family, talk to the hopes and challenges their families face, all while juggling and balancing work with family life.

Launch of Inclusion Matters: A Parent and Carers’ Guide

You are invited to the launch event for a joint publication by P3:Proud.Professional.Parents and Diversity Role Models entitled “Inclusion Matters: A Parent and Carers’ Guide to Assessing a School’s Commitment to Inclusion”.

The Guide is an informational resource for parents and carers to be used as a tool to assist them in assessing a school’s commitment to diversity. Presented in an easy to read format, it helps the reader ask the questions that will help them assess a schools’ genuine commitment to inclusion. It is aimed at parents and carers considering the educational options available to their child, aged 3-18 years, in both the state and independent sectors in England.

The Guide is a first of its kind publication in the UK and addresses a gap in easily accessible information for parents and carers to understand what a school’s statutory obligations are in respect of diversity.

Three years ago Gary and his husband Simon adopted their son when he was nearly 3 years old. They also decided to transition from a dual-income household to an arrangement where Gary became the primary earner and Simon underwent a career transition from Director of Analytics at Nielsen to work part-time for the adoption charity PACT.

Gary will share his story of how he and his husband chose adoption as their route to growing their family, the challenges and rewards of settling in an older child, and how they navigated the transition from a dual-income to a single-income family. Going at it Alone: Single LGBT Parenting

There are around two million single parents in the UK, making up a quarter of all families with dependent children. While not prevalent in the media, single LGBT parenting is becoming more common. P3, in combination with Hogan Lovells, is proud to present the first single LGBT parenting panel event in the UK, with a panel of single LGBT parents parenting newborns through teenagers. Our panellists have all come to single parenthood in different ways – by choice, by law, and through marriage breakdown. The evening should be enlightening as the panel discuss their stories of the good, the bad and the ugly, covering topics such as childcare, support, coping strategies, work/life balance, and dating.
